No one will be convening on Capitol Hill to hear who was culpable for that savagery. Not any time soon. The investigation into the killing of 13 soldiers and the wounding of 30 by the Muslim serviceman who was coddled by the military and intelligence establishments has been consigned to a commission of inquiry that will, indubitably, exercise great political dexterity in killing accountability. For now, Hasan has been airbrushed out of the story.
The hearings ongoing at the time of writing will probe a far more urgent matter than mass murder on a military base by a fifth columnist. As I write, The House Homeland Security Committee is investigating the infiltration of the White House by Tareq and Michaele Salahi.
The two reality TV “stars” had crashed ─ or livened up ─ President Obama’s first White House state dinner on Tuesday, November 24. By Thursday, December 5, our generally dysfunctional representatives and their proxies had summonsed the players in that farce to an inquisition on The Hill. Without much success, mind you. The only witness scheduled on Thursday is the director of the Secret Services, Mark Sullivan, who hastened to fall on his sword.
Nevertheless, and in sharp contrast to the case of Hasan, accountability has been the order of the day with respect to the two harmless interlopers who dared to gaze upon their celestial leader. People are coming clean left, right and center, and that includes the White House Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina and the United States Secret Service. Everyone but Desiree Rogers is owning-up. A former fundraiser for the Obama team, and now the president’s well-rewarded social secretary, Rogers has been excused from the hearings … by her boss.
The publicity seeking Salahis will not be as lucky as Rogers. The Salahis are trashy people (but so is Rogers argues Michelle Malkin). The couple’s façade of fashionable charities, by the Washington Post’s telling, was “marked by financial disarray, potentially false or misleading claims, broken friendships and bitter court filings.”
As Politics Daily’s Lynn Sweet confirms, the Salahis angled for an invitation to the state dinner, but failed to bag one. Still, judging from Ms. Malkin’s play-by-play of the characters at Obama’s star-studded dinner, Mr. and Mrs. Salahi were easily the most inoffensive of the lot.
In attendance was the Service Employees International Union’s “thug-in-chief Andy Stern,” the gentleman who had summed up his “organizing philosophy” this way: “[W]e prefer to use the power of persuasion, but if that doesn’t work we use the persuasion of power.”
Present too was Anita Dunn, a creedal communist notorious for her “Mao Moment.” Earlier this year, Dunn, the former White House communications director, delivered an incoherent, rambling address to students, during which she referred to mass murderer Mao Tse Tung as her favorite “philosopher.”
I suppose Rep. Linda T. Sanchez is small fry in comparison to the career lobbyists and Chicago-style operatives who festooned the place. Sanchez is being investigated by the House ethics committee for ─ the WaPo again ─ putting “three legislative aides to her fellow-congresswoman sister on her payroll after an embezzlement scheme had left Rep. Loretta Sanchez’s office short of funds.”
The Salahis have nothing on the president’s energy czarina Carol Browner. Despite ClimateGate ─ the revelation that “a tiny, close-knit clique of climate scientists, who invented and now drive the ‘global warming’ fraud, tampered with temperature data,” Carol is sticking with Climagedon. From her perspective, it’s onward to the UN’s climate change summit in Copenhagen. From there, with the president’s imprimatur, Browner will continue to knee-cap the American economy with cap-and-trade programs.
There goes our Attorney General Eric Holder! Holder is the man who called Americans a “nation of cowards” because, by his estimation, they were not having the kind of “conversation” about race he had ordered them to have. Of course, what Holder wanted was not a give-and-take, but a take, take, take ─ a one-way talking-to, where brothers like him read the errant American people their rights.
I can’t get worked up by the specter of Tareq and Michaele Salahi frolicking with Rham, Barack, and Biden. Trashy people crashed the White House. So what? The place was packed with nasty, noisome parasites. An extra pair should make no difference. Quite the contrary: There’s something apropos about a couple of reality-show exhibitionists, who themselves “have left an extensive paper trail in federal bankruptcy and state court filings,” brazenly elbowing their way into a party of ponces. (From the White House are issued shake-down schemes that make Bernie Madoff, much less the Salahis, look like babes in grand larceny boot camp.)
Besides, the Salahis, like Obama, are of their time and place. Obama was launched by the Queen of Kitsch, day-time talker Oprah Winfrey. He now sits at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. It’s entirely fitting that a supermarket culture should have representation at the White House.
