“Silence; We’re Studying for Our Pregnancy Test”(2008), “Your Kids: Dumb, Difficult and Dispensable”(2010), “Higher Education Is A Hard Row To Ho” (2014): The author of such titles is well aware of how stupid, on average, American millennials are. She has been for some time.

The 2010 piece aforementioned warned that “the electronic toys our dim, attention-deficient darlings depend on to sustain brain waves are made, for the most, by older people,” and that “the hi-tech endeavor consist in older Americans and Asians uniting to supply young, twittering twits with the playthings that keep their brainwaves from flatlining.”

According to my sources in the high-tech industry, for every useless, self-aggrandizing Gen Yer, a respectful, bright, industrious (East) Asian, with a wicked work ethic, waits in the wings. The millennial generation will be another nail in the coffin of the flailing American productivity.

Encounters over the years with a relatively smart cohort, through this column, have solidified these impressions. Oh yes: I did my patriotic part. I attempted to employ a Millennial or two. I found them to be incapable of following simple written instructions. Their interactions were, moreover, pathologically personal, never professional.

Now, confirmation of these anecdotal impressions comes courtesy of researchers at the Princeton-based Educational Testing Service (ETS). Sponsored by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, the ETS researchers found that, “Not only do Gen Y Americans trail their overseas peers by every measure, but they even score lower than other age groups of Americans.” Millennials in the U.S. lag in literacy, “including the ability to follow simple instructions, practical math, and—hold on to your hat—a category called ‘problem-solving in technology-rich environments.'”

Worse yet: “Even the best-educated Millennials stateside couldn’t compete with their counterparts in Japan, Finland, South Korea, Belgium, Sweden, or elsewhere. … Altogether, the top U.S. Gen Yers, in the 90th percentile, scored lower than their counterparts in 15 countries.” This includes millennials with masters degrees and doctorates. Our best and brightest managed to best their peers in only three countries: Ireland, Poland and Spain. Much as Charles Murray has documented in his seminal “Coming Apart: The State of White America, 1960-2010,” the results obtain irrespective of class and race.

Rejoice! America is becoming an egalitarian Idiocracy.

Let us anchor these general findings about the nature of the Gen Y Beast in particular examples from the passing week.

A few students at the University of Oklahoma were caught in flagrante, singing a racist ditty while white. The cretins of cable were in high dudgeon. CNN’s Brianna Keilar crisscrossed a black student, Meagan Johnson, about her experience with racism on the UO campus. Oh yes, replied the girl. She had indeed endured the indignities of racism at the UO. “We experience forms, different forms of racism on our campus all the time. It wasn’t shocking at all.” Keilar requested examples. Right away, the student replied that her “overall experience at OU has been a great one.” It was vital, she added, for “the University of Oklahoma … to focus on diversity across our campus. … it needs to be a campus wide effort to make OU [a] more diverse and more inclusive place.”

Here was an example of an educated lass who was incapable of comprehending and answering a straightforward question. Encouraged by Keilar’s effusive praise—”I love your perspective on this Meagan,” she gushed—the girl went on to cop to experiencing “racial microaggression”: She had been asked for lessons in twerking and complimented on her weave. A pedagogue, presumably, had taught the girl about “microaggression.” Race Robocop Keilar responded with compliments. Thus was this Millennial’s mindlessness reinforced.

Millennials have been pre-programmed and praised for stupidity. They’ve acquired an education yet they remain uneducated. For an educated young American would know that racist speech, too, is constitutionally protected speech. And an educated young American would know that, as professor Eugene Volokh teaches, “It’s unconstitutional for the University of Oklahoma to expel students for racist speech.”

It would appear that when the neocortex is underused, the reptilian brain takes over.

Hysteria and heightened emotions are the hallmarks of the Millennial Mind. They can “whip up a false sense of mass outrage” with ease. The Spectator’s Brendan O’Neill calls these walking dead dodos “The Stepford Students.” They sit “stony-eyed in lecture halls or surreptitiously police beer-fueled banter in the uni bar. They look like students, dress like students, smell like students. But their student brains have been replaced by brains bereft of critical faculties and programmed to conform. To the untrained eye, they seem like your average book-devouring, ideas-discussing, H&M-adorned youth, but anyone who’s spent more than five minutes in their company will know that these students are far more interested in shutting debate down than opening it up.”

Black, liberal and bright—oops; I committed a “microaggression”—comedian Chris Rock recently confessed that he avoids doing his stand-up routine in front of millennial audiences. “You can’t say ‘the black kid over there.’ No, it’s ‘the guy with the red shoes.’ You can’t even be offensive on your way to being inoffensive.”

In the Orwellian universe in which your kids are suspended, words speak louder than actions. Drunken youths sang a nine-second ditty while white—they did not defraud, steal, vandalize, beat, rape or murder anyone; they merely mouthed ugly words. Unkind cuts, however, called for an exorcism. On cue, a petrified Waspy man, OU President David Boren, proceeded to perform the rituals that would soothe his unhinged charges. While Boren failed to fumigate the fraternity, tear his clothes; rub earth and ashes on his noggin and dress in sackcloth—he did shutter the doors to the dorm and board up its windows. A vice president of diversity was appointed. Soviet-style investigations launched, and summary expulsions sansdue process carried out.

Tyranny, as we know, strives for uniformity.

In synch with their pedagogic pied piper, University of Oklahoma students gathered for prayer vigils, marches, demonstrations and lamentation. Burly athletes wept. One Oklahoma football lineman “decommitted,” or was committed. This menagerie of morons—this institutionalized stupidity—would be comical were it not so calamitous, as shown by the research commissioned by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.

Barack Obama has promised America’s miseducated Millennials to keep the student-loan bubble from bursting. Campaigning in Iowa, the president vowed to keep college affordable, because, like every other welfare and warfare program, it “is at the heart of who we are.”

Interest rates for Federal Stafford Loans are set to double from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent, on July 1. You just know how bad things are when a socialized financial market like student loans attempts to correct itself. Nevertheless, if the glut of miseducation is to be curbed, higher interest rates are healthy.

Why the president’s promise? The 26th Amendment, smuggled into the Constitution by statute, artificially swelled the ranks of Democratic voters by millions of 18-, 19-, and 20-year-olds. While they don’t work for a living, youngsters get to vote for dibs on the livelihood of those who do.

It’s Happy Meal time for the nation’s students. Obama wishes to extend higher education to many more young Americans.

But how well is this education system performing? Fifty percent of new graduates are jobless or underemployed, says USA Today. They might as well have added “unemployable.” The New York Post told of the heartbreaking story of “John Smith, 31,” who has earned a master’s degree. The Brooklyn resident “works part time at a Trader Joe’s because he hasn’t found work in his field for over a year.”

Smith is dogged by a debt of $45,000. “His girlfriend, Meropi Peponides, 27, a graduate student at Columbia University, will have over $50,000 [in student loan debt] by the time she graduates.”What exactly is Mr. Smith’s field of endeavor we are not told.

The article’s premise, however, is that with a master’s degree—any master’s—one should not be doing menial work at Trader Joe’s. However, the fact that so many Millenials can’t figure out one small thing speaks volumes about the quality of the education for which they are hopelessly in-hock.

Don’t pursue an exorbitantly expensive master’s which prepares you for packing shelves at Trader Joe’s, and no more.

The future, as job reports show, belongs largely to a cognitive elite that can invent, design, perfect, and generally manipulate highly complex technology. This requires a science, technology, engineering or math degree. But only a fraction of enrolled students has the intellectual capacity for STEM degrees. And, according to the Higher Education Research Institution at UCLA, while “nearly 31 percent of all students who entered college in 2009 planned to major in a STEM discipline,” a staggering 22 percent dropped out.

Our check-out boy was able to impart that “he has sent out about 200 résumés in his search.” Smith was “looking mainly for work with,” wait for it: a “nonprofit organization.” The master’s degree for which Mr. Smith had incurred $45,000 in student-loan debt once qualified him for the nonprofit niche, which, incidentally, is often spawned and sustained artificially by state-issued, low-interest, funny-money loans. According to LearningToGive.org, “The second highest source of income is government grants or contracts.”

Student debt is approaching $1 trillion. And, “Outstanding education debt surpassed credit-card debt last year for the first time,” confirms Bloomberg.com. Students, it would seem, are acquiring an empty and overpriced schooling.

The housing house-of-cards is not the only “bubble in search of a pin” in modern-day USA. The intellectual bubble is begging to be burst too.

But not if Obama and Mitt Romney can help it. Before backtracking for political expediency, Romney wisely recommended that the housing market be permitted to bottom out. “Don’t try to stop the foreclosure process. Let it run its course and hit the bottom,” he counseled.

But on keeping loan rates for students artificially low, and the trillion-dollar education bubble afloat—Romney stands with Obama.

Don’t ask why the “news” is all a-flutter for Meghan McCain, but earlier in February, she issued another of her sub-intelligent messages, on a forum ─ ABC’s “The View” ─ that is a fertile seedbed for mind-sapping stupidity:

The Tea Party Movement was “innately racist,” Meghan said. This was why “young people were turned off by the movement.” And , in her most grating Valley-Girl inflection: “I’m sorry ─ revolutions start with young people, not with 65-year-old people talking about literacy tests and people who can’t say the word vote in English.” The rude reference was to Tom Tancredo’s observation that people “who cannot spell the word vote or say it in English” are determining elections in America.

The former Congressman and 2008 Republican presidential candidate was on to something. The Founding Fathers decided in their wisdom that only propertied males would vote. To justify distaff disenfranchisement look no further than “Meghaan.” As to the other limitation: The founders were not democrats; they foresaw today’s pillage politics ─ and they understood that, unchecked, overbearing majorities would be more malignant than monarchs. And all too well did the founders know that, granted a vote, the unpropertied masses would help themselves to the belongings of the propertied.

But what would “Meghaan,” a member of the millennial generation, know about a group of truly great revolutionaries whose average age, in 1776, was 44?

Millennials are a generation of youngsters that reveres only itself for no good reason. They have been unleashed on America by progressive families and educators (Democrat and Republican alike) who’ve deified their off-putting offspring and charges, and instilled in them a sense of self-worth disproportionate to their actual worth.

These “‘Trophy Kids” are entering the workforce just as America’s economic power is receding. The outcome is not nearly as positive as Wall Street Journal writer Ron Alsop would have you believe. It transpires from Mr. Alsop’s lighthearted article titled “The ‘Trophy Kids’ Go to Work” that Meghan is a member of a studied cohort, born between 1980 and 2001. They “have a stronger sense of entitlement than older workers,” and, as “some research studies indicate,” unfounded feelings of superiority that feed their great expectations.

Even more illuminating for longstanding advocates of a traditional schooling such as this writer is how uncreative this generation of youngsters truly is. Meghan and her peers are everywhere, loudly dispensing mind-numbing clichés as though they were Socratic sayings. The uniformity of opinion among these mediocre and frightfully monolithic minds is scarier than its uninformed nature.

Still scarier are their dangerously elevated self-esteems. Drumming up ignorance can be risky business. In a 1997 monograph (which I reviewed in 2000), Marilyn Bowman, a Canadian professor, forewarned that “there is a dark side to self-esteem. The prototype aggressor is an individual whose self-appraisal is unrealistically positive.”

Needy and narcissistic, these dullards were nurtured by pedagogues, parents, and politicians (again, Democrat and Republican; liberal and “conservative” alike) who were convinced that loosey-goosey schools would produce free thinkers and geniuses. Instead, attests Alsop, the “high-maintenance rookies,” dreaded by human-resource executives across America, “flounder without precise guidelines.” Millennials “want loads of attention and guidance from employers,” and they “break down in tears after a negative performance review.”

The removal of the burdens of a core curriculum, a literary canon, the hardest of sciences, discipline and moral instruction ─ this has helped to mold the penetrating intellects of The “Meghaan” Millennials. Content-based, top-down, analytical and explicit teaching was replaced with pop-culture friendly, non-hierarchically delivered flimflam. The educational emphasis has long been on cooperative experiences and groupthink over individual achievement.

Nevertheless, Hollywood and the rest of the glitterati and literati make abundantly clear in all their tired scripts and messages ─ that the older generation has nothing on the youth. Especially when it comes to technology smarts. That’s false. The electronic toys our dim, attention-deficient darlings depend on to sustain brain waves are made, for the most, by “older people.”

The hybrid, hi-tech workforce ─ comprised as it is of local and outsourced talent ─ is manned, generally, by terribly smart older people with advanced engineering degrees. Yes, the people designing gadgets for our grandiose gimps are often Asians, many of whom are older. They beaver away under fewer, also terribly smart, older Americans. The hi-tech endeavor is thus all about (older) Americans and Asians uniting to supply young, twittering twits with the playthings that keep their brainwaves from flatlining.

My source in the industry tells me that the millennial generation will be another nail in the coffin of flailing American productivity. I am told too that for every useless, self-important millennial, a respectful, bright, industrious (East) Asian, with a wicked work ethic, waits in the wings.

Let the lazy American youngster look down at his superiors, and live-off his delusions and his parents. His young Asian counterpart harbors a different sensibility and skill; he is hungrily learning from his higher-ups with a view to displacing artificially fattened geese like Meghan McCain.
