The simple, base truth is that, Trump, a second-rate gangster, wants to be Bibi, a rank butcher ~ilana

The fuss and feathers over Trump’s foreign policy is silly, childish. It attests to what happens to the minds of men when they view the very public mass murder of The Other—committed by their Leaderas unrelated to their own moral integrity and future welfare: the brain goes to mush. Or perhaps it was the size of a lentil to begin with.

In the mind of the minimally moral, minimally compos mentis American—”America First” and genocide ought to be two mutually exclusive categories.

Here’s a useful clue: If your politician of choice, going into an election, supports genocide or is silent about genocide; he’s not your friend. You ought to be smart enough, in possession of the very basic moral faculties—having reached a rudimentary development of conscience—to make that minuscule determination.

Has mommy not taught you that murder is wrong and that no mass murderer and congenital thief is your friend? Alas, the decay of the American Mind is such that Trump’s fans are apoplectic—and one or two even texting me in tears: “America First, ilana; what-oh-what has happened to it?”

How the fuck should I know? Did I vote for Trump in 2024? No! For the reasons cited, I registered a protest vote for Jill Stein, whose foreign policy—from Israel to Latin America—is libertarian perfection.

I was hardly being a crusty cynic when, in a January 3, 2018 column, “How President Trump Normalized Neoconservatism,” I foresaw the coming vanquishing of Venezuela:

Neoconservatives were, are pleased with President Trump’s foreign policy.

A couple of months back, Bloomberg’s Eli Lake let it be known that he was in neoconservative nirvana: ‘… for Venezuela, [Donald Trump] came very close to calling for regime change. ‘The United States has taken important steps to hold the regime accountable,’ Trump said. ‘We are prepared to take further action if the government of Venezuela persists on its path to impose authoritarian rule on the Venezuelan people.’

‘For a moment,” swooned Lake, ‘I closed my eyes and thought I was listening to a Weekly Standard editorial meeting.’ (“How President Trump Normalized Neoconservatism,” Ilana Mercer, January 3, 2018)

“Onward to Venezuela!” I wearily wrote. It was not a mysterious sense of foreboding; I was just following facts. Then, I watched the lies with fascination. By now, I knew all the tricks. What’s the excuse of Trump’s base?

That his phlegmatic followers now whinge and whine over Trump’s lackluster America-First focus is really quite puzzling, if not contemptible. It’s like complaining—not that serial killer Ted Bundy killed a lot; but that he was unpatriotic for driving around in a Volkswagen Beetle.

“Ever heard of a Chevy Tahoe, Ted? Boohoo, Bundy, why did you go to work in a Volkswagen, you traitor? Buy America, not German.

Bundy and Trump, Joe Biden and Bibi Netanyahu, and their minions, are murderers all. Murder is what defines them; it’s their defining feature. Except that the last three delegated mass murder to the mercenaries of a military. Bundy did the deeds himself.

Surely, you don’t need mommy to tell you that murder is more than a secondary personality trait? It defines who a person is. It tends to crowd out all other positive attributes. If that’s not obvious, think of Oscar Wilde’s simple guidelines for cretins: “Murder is always a mistake. One should never do anything that one cannot talk about after dinner.”

Still, for some reason, his fans and voters speak of Trump’s genocide as though it were a minor item of foreign-policy, albeit—small mercies—an unwelcome foreign policy event. Absurd—as the commission of genocide puts the perpetrators and co-perpetrators outside the human species. And genocide and mass murder are the defining features of this man’s foreign policy in Western Asia; in Gaza and beyond.

“Genocide for Israel” is Trump’s de facto Middle East foreign policy.

Impoverished heroic Houthis of Yemen Trump has murdered beginning in 2018: The House of Trump in partnership with the House of Saud. Iranians Trump has helped murder. Somalis and Nigerians Trump has been murdering. Sailors in vessels, on the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific, no due process required: them, too, Trump has murdered. All this with nary a meaningful check on executive power from the dullards serving in the world’s “greatest” deliberative bodies, the US Congress and Senate.

And now Venezuelans, ordinary men and women, scan the skies nervously for the telltale metallic shimmer, wondering whether they are being simply surveilled from above, or targeted by Hellfire missiles.

Genocide, the crime of all crimes, was Trump’s gateway crime. Once you’ve crossed over to genocide, the world (and its people) is your oyster.

Indeed, like Joe Biden before him, Trump doubled down on the eradication of the international law and its redeeming natural-law features. Like Biden, Trump ensured that no international prosecutor or prominent UN chronicler of Israel’s crimes against humanity went unpunished. Trump has sanctioned and persecuted countries and individuals who sought to cuff the criminal Netanyahu and levy the law of God and nature against Israel’s sexually perverse serial killers, loosed upon the world. Also thanks to Trump. Yes, thousands of these sexually deviant Israeli serial killers roam among us, when they could be, should be, in the dock, at the Hague.

Enmeshed, the American and Israeli cabal, two self-appointed world powers—Pax Americana ceding to “Pax Judaica”—are presently and shamelessly still engaged in genocide. Israel acts to “disappear” the Palestinians as individuals, as a people and as a polity. Trump, who respects Israel’s wishes to the letter, appoints people who do the same. He pursues and imposes policies that dovetail with what Israel demands.

Trump, corporate media and the political ring leaders sashaying up and down both aisles may call the “new” dispensation under which Palestinians live a “ceasefire.” In point of fact, the so-called ceasefire is just Trump’s “engineered new normal: a slow-paced genocide.” All for the love of Israel.

The future of Gaza, Trump has made clear, would “be pretty much up to Israel.” Although he is there with Israel to help in the dismembering and looting of Gaza. When Israel declared its intention to take over Gaza, Donald Trump had shrugged and egged them on. “Ramp it up,” he whooped. Having long since slipped between the sheets with soulmate Bibi Netanyahu, Trump gave the Israeli prime minister the go-ahead to “fight and finish the job.”

Under Gaza’s weeping winter skies, massacres continue with Trump’s imprimatur. Drones, killer quadcopters and other Israeli shelling implements come scudding at Gaza from the north all the time. The “destruction of remaining homes, property and land, and the prevention of the entry of food, humanitarian aid and basic infrastructure materials” had never ceased, only let-up slightly. Genocide hums along now at the rate of more than eight human beings murdered a day, and at more than 20 injured, also each day.

By no unfortunate coincidence, Trump has normalized genocide for Israel, albeit at a slower pace. Any depravity Israel thinks up; Trump has fulfilled in kind and in kindly blessings. Pictured here is the president of the United States, partying, on December 31, 2025, with the butcher of Tel Aviv.

And his fans expected Trump to compartmentalize the killer-within and keep to his America-First promise? Are they dense?

As to Venezuela: Trump knows nothing about the anti-imperial spirit of the Bolívar Revolution still animating Latin America. Successfully, Venezuela native “Simón Bolívar led the people of South America to rebel against Spanish colonial rule.” However, the independence movement’s victories, won between 1775 and 1850, live on in the wishes of a preponderance of the people of Latin America to retain national sovereignty, to decide about the political dispensation under which they’ll live—including the right to reject Trump “populism” in favor of their own Chavismo populism.

And they want to control the bounty of their lands.

Trump’s handlers, only marginally smarter than he, tell him to say stuff that makes him seem in-the-know. So, Trump stammers about The Monroe Doctrine and the imperative to make errant Latin America submit to America (much like Arabia bows to Bibi).

Trump’s Other Handlers have yet to hand Trump his marching orders. But they’re happy. On Israel’s ILTV, four minutes into a segment titled “Maduro Arrest: Venezuela Blames Israel, U.S. Warns Iran,” one of Israel’s many pig-ignorant panelists weighs in—the country appears utterly bereft of high-minded intellectuals. The Hasbara comes courtesy of Dan Diker, president of the Jerusalem Center for Foreign Affairs.

Diker describes Venezuela as part of an evil axis of resistance, “a rear base for the Iranian regime.” Hezbollah and Hamas are also all over that poor benighted and blighted country. Likewise Iranians: Leaders who refuse to die by Israel (which in itself is completely “antisemitic”); they too, accuses Diker, will often seek shelter in Venezuela. Altogether, Israel is pleased with Trump’s decapitating moves in Latin America.

Although Israelis have expressed themselves about the American invasion of Venezuela at the speed at which they commented on the assassination of Charlie Kirk—they, in the person of Dr. Diker, want you to know that Venezuela’s acting president Delcy Rodríguez is an … antisemite. She accused Israel “of orchestrating the U.S. military operation that led to the arrest of Nicolás Maduro, branding it ‘Zionist aggression.’”

Psychologizing about people is a form of ad hominem argument, in my opinion. It’s bad. I don’t like it one bit. But Trump is the kind of single-celled organism, an amoeba in mentation and affect, to which psychologizing is suited.

The simple, atavistic truth is that Trump, a second-rate gangster, wants to be Bibi, a rank butcher.

Trump has been fellating Bibi Netanyahu without let. He has been made to feel politically impotent, lacking in agency in the face of the master magician, Bibi, who is leading Trump around by the nose. The bully-cum-tyrant Trump, a stupid man of cold violence, needs to regain manly potency by any means at all other than neutering Israel.

So he “bombs the Venezuelan capital, and kidnaps President Maduro.” Let’s hope Trump’s acolytes understand by now, that folly, ignorance, bluff and blind conceit will continue to typify his actions, stateside and abroad.

In “Iran Tries To Restore Regional Balance; Israel Continues To Murder And Get Away With Murder,” a HARD TRUTH podcast, David Vance and myself have a heated discussion about Iran’s response, on April 13 and 14, to Israel’s murder of senior commanders in Damascus, on April 1. Six other Iranian nationals and six Syrian citizens were assassinated. In all, Israel murdered 13 people in its April 1 strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus.

I detail Israel’s lengthy, illegal, immoral and extra-judicial assassination program against Iranian civilians and military ongoing for decades, coupled as it is with Israeli cyberterrorism directed at Iran’s infrastructure and state apparatus.

All things considered, I think Iran’s restraint was quite commendable in launching what was a theatrical, victimless, precision attack on Israeli military targets alone. This was the first time Teheran has directly struck Israel proper. Israel, conversely, regularly strikes on Iranian soil.

All the more so is Teheran’s restraint commendable considering that its attempt to make a point, as it deescalated a conflict begun by Israel in Damascus, occurs against the backdrop of a US-led crippling program of sanctions and embargoes directed at the Iranian people, and an Israeli, American-backed and sponsored mass killing and land-confiscation program underway in Gaza and the West Bank.

Both your columnist and David Vance agree that the Israel First neocons have always aimed at regime change in Iran. David, however, pushes back: He sees even greater forces at work in creating global chaos.

Murder with majority approval is still murder, whomever the perpetrator. Whether it is committed by actors within or without The State; by the designated ‘good guys’ or by the ‘bad guys’; murder of innocents is still murder ~ilana

The razing of Gaza by Benjmain Netanyahu, abetted by Joe Biden and his Uniparty accomplices, in the course of which civilians are dying: This is murder with malice  aforethought, a concept that includes ‘deaths resulting from actions that display a depraved indifference to life! ~ilana

It’s simple: If you know in advance that your actions will cause the death of thousands of civilians; attached to your criminal actions (actus reus) is a guilty mind (mens rea), which means malice aforethought, also known as intent, in Western jurisprudence and judicial philosophy.

The razing of Gaza and the ongoing murder of thousands of civilians by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), with western imprimatur, is a war crime. Strafing civilian populations and pulverizing entire neighborhoods to ostensibly “soften” the few embedded targets within—this violates natural law, international law, libertarian law and Just War Theory.

It was true when Genghis Bush dropped daisy cutters and cluster bombs on Iraqi civilians, killing and displacing hundreds of thousands of them; it was true when allied forces firebombed Dresden and Hamburg, and it was true when Harry Truman dropped atomic bombs on Japanese civilians.

Not that it helped his victims, but Truman icily expressed some “regret” for “the [beastly] necessity of wiping out whole populations”: “I know that Japan is a terribly cruel and uncivilized nation in warfare,” he told an ardent supporter, “but I can’t bring myself to believe that because they are beasts, we should ourselves act in that same manner.”

We know ineluctably that Gaza is “a terribly cruel and uncivilized nation in warfare.” The sympathies expressed by Gazans toward their neighbors, victims of the October 7 slaughter, were meager and grudging, coerced by media, for the most.

Leadership in Egypt and Jordan is less than candid as to why they refuse to welcome Gaza’s refugees into their midst as the Polish welcomed the Ukrainians. In fact, the Egyptians have no intention whatsoever of allowing Palestinians, whom they view as a radicalizing element, into their country. Like President Hosni Mubarak before him; President El-Sisi refuses to swell the already-swollen ranks of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. Mubarak had periodically conducted mini-massacres against the Brotherhood—the organization that sired Hamas—with no particular outcry from the West.

In 1970, King Hussein (ibn Talal) of Jordan massacred thousands of Palestinians for fomenting a coup against the Hashemite monarchy. To avert the anarchy Hussein associated with the Palestinians and their simmering resentments, the King then expelled the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization) and many thousands of Palestinian troublemakers to Lebanon.

Contra the West’s angels-and-demons foreign policy narrative, the mirage of Hamas as an oppressor of its downtrodden people is just that: a mirage.

Last I looked, the Palestinian People had voted with a vengeance for the “Islamic Resistance Movement” (Hamas), an organization whose existence revolves around Israel’s destruction. In the last election, Hamas got a majority in all but two of the 16 districts in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

According to Mark Mellman, a pollster, “If new presidential elections were held with two candidates, Fatah’s Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas’s Ismail Haniyeh, Abbas would receive 37 percent of the vote, and Haniyeh would win in a landslide with 58 percent.” Substantial majorities in the West Bank and Gaza favor “armed conflict” over peaceful, political solutions to the conflict.

The Arab Street has always been more militant than its leaders. Said Arab-American scholar Fouad Ajami: “It is a peculiarity of the Arab political order that many of the rulers and the dynasties are more moderate than the populace.” This is why Iraqis turned out en masse for Sharia law. And why, enabled by George W. Bush and Ms. Condoleezza Rice, the people of Egypt sought to replace Hosni Mubarak’s ruling party with the banned Muslim Brotherhood. The people’s proclivities catapulted Hezbollah into government in Lebanon. And they account for the smashing success enjoyed by Islamists in Saudi and Afghani elections.

These uncomfortable facts notwithstanding, murder with majority approval is still murder, whomever the perpetrator. Whether it is committed by actors within or without the State; by the designated “good guys” or the “bad guys”; murder of innocents is still murder.

Thus, the razing of Gaza by Benjmain Netanyahu, abetted by Joe Biden and his Uniparty accomplices, in the course of which civilians are dying: This is murder with malice aforethought, a concept that includes “deaths resulting from action that display a depraved indifference to life.” (Read “Hamas, Israel And The Anatomy Of State Treason.”) Further depraved indifference to life is Israel’s throttling of supplies of water, food and power to the millions of aid-dependent Gazans, as Israel knows full-well this will imperil civilians indirectly.

Silly soliloquies poured into our ears about “Hamas using civilians as human shields” amount to morally bankrupt non sequiturs. True: Hamas has invited the IDF to “come get us if you can find us among Gaza’s civilians.” The IDF and its handlers, however, have accepted Hamas’ invitation to pulverize civilian communities.

In other words, Hamas’ culpability does not absolve Israel from blame. One agenda of wrongs doesn’t change another.

“To be very good at something inherently stupid,” said a great English novelist, “is not the mark of high intelligence.” In addition to betraying its own citizens by failing to uphold their basic rights; the unthinking IDF has effectively bombed Gaza back to the stone age. This will do nothing to eradicate Hamas! Previous forays into the West Bank and Gaza signally failed to accomplish this necessary mission.

Gazans, in an extremity of suffering, are instructed to “evacuate to the southern part of the strip.” That exhortation reminds me of Ivanka Trump’s ludicrous counsel to men in hard hats, whose occupations had been outsourced forever: “Learn how to code.” “Evacuate to the southern part of the Gaza strip” is but a ludicrous meme given that Gaza has been levelled. There is nowhere left to run.

Tragically, Israel has squandered much of the goodwill generated by the heinous, diabolical, pogrom, executed by spawns of Satan on October 7. In the end, Bibi has obliterated the memory of those martyrs by creating new martyrs in Gaza.

So, “How To Defeat Hamas And Stop The Carnage In Gaza”?

IN A NEW HARD TRUTH PODCAST, your columnist argues that needed was a smarter, more effective response that targets only the culprits of the Oct. 7 slaughter, and not innocents. Such a response is outlined in detail. UK’s David Vance and I further discuss the idea that Netanyahu has desecrated the memory of the Oct. 7 martyrs, creating new martyrs in Gaza, via his crude— nay, diabolical—response to the Hamas massacre. The world’s sympathy has been squandered. In all circumstances, David and I both agree that the US/UK interference in the region is not helpful and that REGIONALISM ALWAYS BEATS GLOBALISM.

ADDENDUM

THE COLUMN YOU HAVE JUST READ,Bibi Obliterates Memory Of Oct. 7 Martyrs; Creates New Martyrs In Gaza,” was published by only three exceedingly courageous publications: My home at The New American. The Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity.

Note that this is a column penned by a systematic, anti-war rightist. It offers facts about Palestinian voting patterns and agency in order to dispel the Disney world foreign-policy worldview of the West. This antiwar argument, coming as it does from the hard, libertarian Right, is made from a place of reality, and not hippie naiveté.

Whatever you might think of people as a group; ethical human-beings can never-ever endorse their wholesale murder, now underway. I have, however, since mid-October, come to see that justice is on the side of the Palestinians.

I thank my editors at TNA for, at least for a while, standing by The Truth. https://thenewamerican.com/opinion/bibi-obliterates-memory-of-oct-7-martyrs-creates-new-martyrs-in-gaza/

The Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity have always stood for the Truth. As has The Mises Institute.    https://mises.org/power-market/bibi-netanyahu-may-find-himself-dock-hague

That Truth is now visible from space.

I thank my podcast partner, David Vance, for sharing a moral commitment, and, well, having the proverbial male bits so few men have.

I am still hopeful there will be others on the Right.

Alas, little has changed since Iraq. This response to the razing of Gaza has elements of an Iraq redux, where you tell the unvarnished truth, from day one, https://www.ilanamercer.com/2002/09/why-so-many-americans-don-t-support-attacking-iraq/   https://www.ilanamercer.com/2003/04/murder-by-majority/, become persona non grata forever. Witnessed in Israel on October 7 was the utter forsaking by the State of its most elementary—and only—obligations to the citizenry: Defend their natural rights to life, liberty and property ~ilana

The Uniparty has forsaken the American border to the same digital docility to which Israelis had been forsaken. At least in Israel, an attack on the homeland is followed—however late and misguided—by a defense of the territorial homeland. An attack on the American homeland, invariably, sees our military pack up to go to … Timbuktu ~ilana

IF YOU CONSIDER THAT the IDF, Israel’s standing army, is the Middle East’s most powerful army and among the world’s top 20 military forces; then the metaphor of the Remington Rifle against slings and stones flung by indigenes lives on in Hamas’ murderous invasion of Southern Israel on October 7. Primitives against sophisticates; savagery against innocence.

From Ofakim to Ashkelon; from Magen to Zikim—the barbaric, cross-border onslaught claimed the lives of more than 1200 civilians. Two thousand Israeli souls have been injured and dozens kidnapped. Decapitation, rape and other desecration have been a feature of the orgiastic pogrom. Between them, Hamas (in the person of senior official Musa Abu Marzuk) and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad had connived to kidnap more than 130 Israeli civilians.

Perhaps unevolved forms of life is the better descriptive for Hamas, for military primitives Hamas are not. On that particular Sabbath—also the Simchat Torah celebration during Sukkot—Hamas had launched about 3000 rockets into and over Israeli communities. On its website, the not-so-intelligent Israel Defense Forces (IDF) offers up detailed “intelligence” on the terrorists’ rocket arsenal. Hamas has the long range variety (M-302), as well as the medium and short-range Grad rockets, which are old, but effective, Soviet technology.

LOW TECH

Nevertheless, this was a low-tech invasion. Hamas operatives motorbiked, paraglided, bulldozed and motorboated their way, by land and by sea, into 17 areas in Southern Israel. So much for Israel’s flimsy fences, unmanned, AI-powered machine guns and other clever, high-tech toys on the Gazan border. Post-graduate cleverness was simply no match for Hamas’ fiercely savage, hands-on guerrilla warfare.

Hamas’ low-tech operation also meant that the gang steered clear of foreign-looking plants loitering in Gaza, fat fingers stabbing at the invincible mobile device. Israeli intelligence assets are likey not that hard to spot. While Hamas deployed basic technology like cameras and sensors; they also took care to use informants that worked for their cause, not against it.

In my estimation, Israeli intelligence assets could very likely have been compromised. Israel is a progressive society recruiting for racial, sexual and cross-sexual representation, not necessarily merit and mettle. The Israelis have learned from the best, the United States of America, how to dissolve their society’s institutions in the vat of multiculturalism. All America’s satellite states are monkey-see-monkey-do appeasers on matters of “social justice.” Or, self-immolation.

Hamas’s low-tech invasion into southern Israel was also a clear demonstration of a complete failure of the State apparatus, the IDF being the face of the State. Bibi Netanyahu, prime minister, was largely in hiding during those first crucial hours.

The most candid report, sent to me, on the evening of October 7, came from my cousin, safe, thank G-d. Her words were the most truthful to date:

“Shock, betrayal, the crash of a dream; how could this happen? People are still without help or rescue. They turned to the media to call the army because there were terrorists in their homes and yards. It has been hours, and the situation has still not changed much. Total chaos.”

To my question, “Has not a war room been set up? Are not updates from the IDF and the PM’s office a constant thing on television?”

Her reply: “Nope. Nobody is talking to us. There is no point person to field questions and focus resources. People are doing the work of the army. It’s like the Wild West.”

Having lived through the 1973 War, I wrote in my “Betraying Brave Boys” column:

‘The Yom Kippur War Israel nearly lost. Israeli intelligence failed miserably. As is usually the case, the kids paid the price—a few hundred youngsters were stranded on the borders with no backup. They defended their posts heroically before being gruesomely slaughtered. Many were dismembered. When that war ended, Remembrance Day swelled to include another 2,523 casualties—about one-tenth of one percent of the population was dead. Thousands more were wounded. The casualty estimates for Egypt and Syria were 16,000.’

Egyptian President Anwar Saddat, however, attacked the Israeli military; not the citizenry. Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir took the blame for what a literate Israeli population had dubbed המחדל (hamechdal). Mechdal is Hebrew for a deep, systemic failure. As I recently read (in a badly written tome, Golda: Biographia, purported to be in Hebrew, but assaulting the language with ugly Anglicisms), to blame were the generals, who refused to consider that Arab armies had massed on all Israel’s borders for anything other than a regional rave. Innocent military maneuvers, the generals asserted.

Back in 1973, Israeli society was not yet as riven by division as it is today—divisions that mirror the gashes that have opened up in American society, and, by and large, have been exported by it.

MAGA AND ISRAEL

America exports the woke worldview and many an idée fixe abroad. With these come the same tensions. Malign MAGA-hating meddlers stateside, such as Alexsander Vindman, a Democrat who somehow made colonel in the US army, blame the Israeli Right for societal tensions. From where I’m perched, the July riots and demonstrations in Israel appeared to have originated in ANTIFA-like hysteria, in which parliamentary checks-and-balances on an overweening judiciary were rejected.

Parliament had democratically reduced the powers of a woke, hyperactive judiciary. The Knesset had reclaimed some power of representation. Over this, the usual Israeli and American culprits were fulminating, for Israel’s Supreme Court better serves ultra-progressive forces than its Parliament, which represents a variegated people.

To Israel’s great credit, and unlike America’s Antifa, Israeli Wokerati were not howling, stripping, discussing and twerking their reproductive orifices, inventing pronouns, and burning the country down. At least some of these functions a treacherous State left for Hamas to do.

TREASON

Witnessed in Israel on October 7 was the utter forsaking by the State of its most elementary—and only—obligations to the citizenry: Defend their natural rights to life, liberty and property.

Seventy-two hours on, and a top banana for the Israeli Defense Forces was blaming Hamas for duping Israeli “experts.” D’oh! Why of course: After all, it is expected that a blood-lusting cabal of satanical sub-humans would apprise targets of its comings-and-goings.

Ok, but if you’re deaf and dumb, why not heed Egyptian intelligence, whose officials now claim Israel ignored repeated warnings that “something big” was going down? Google the phrase “What went wrong?” and you’ll discover that the patsy press has received Israeli officialdom’s memo. The efforts of the State to deflect blame, to reject responsibility for treason, have begun. Thus was Danny Dannon, another top banana, recounting to BBC’s HARDtalk what terrible characters are the Hamasniks. D’oh! Again.

Stendhal, a French writer, said there was no hypocrisy in mathematics. Hamas is mathematically honest about what it wants to do to all Jews.

It is the custodians of Israeli security whose calculus is off. If you correctly think Hamas is so horrible, why had Israel opted to deploy gizmos to the border with Gaza?

DEPLOYING GIZMOS TO GAZA

As your columnist divulged in 2008, Israel opted for “Robo-Snipers” instead of flesh-and-blood men and women. The nation’s “19- and 20-year-old soldiers” were still deployed to the front—but virtually. They sit at a safe distance “behind computer screens,” waiting on “approval by a commanding officer” before “pushing the kill button.”

Yes, Israel automated the process of defense against Gaza, creating a set of “auto kill-zones” “by networking together remote-controlled machine guns, ground sensors, and drones along the 60-kilometer border.”

Gizmos are useless against the stuff of Gaza—and Latin America, for that matter. In 2005, with great enthusiasm from the Israeli Left, Gaza was given over to the dogs of war, Hamas and their avid constituents. Despite the fertile, coastal land they were handed, the precious ground water they sit on, and generous international assistance, the place soon went to the dogs. Egypt, Jordan and Israel are all terrified to open their borders to the seething snake pit that is Gaza.

It matters not whether you think the cauldron of cruelty that is Gaza created its inhabitants or whether it’s the obverse. The reality is that every nation in the region fears the Gazans. Nobody in the region wants immigrants from Gaza—although given the US Uniparty’s appetite for progressive, smug preening (aka treason); one can envisage Gaza being air lifted to America by the same Special Ops forces who rushed to import Afghanistan. In any event, hearth and home are best defended by men, military or militia, on the ground, carrying guns and grenades.

Besides, all defense systems are fallible and finite in their capacity. Air-defense systems fail. The Russians have the best possible air-defense system, yet they too, on occasion, are overwhelmed by barrages of British cruise missiles supplied to a flailing Ukraine.

If military experts were doing the work currently done by neophyte chicklet reporters; they’d explain, in newspapers like The Hill, that no defense system can intercept 3000 missiles lobbed all at once. Instead of military experts, alas, we have girls cutting-and-pasting from Wikipedia about Israel’s Iron Dome air missile defense system.

Digital docility was never going to ward off a hissing enclave like Gaza, where people, young and old, writhe in hate (watch the children of Gaza bully a Jewish little boy held captive).

GEOPOLITICS

Hamas’ invasion occurred against the backdrop of geopolitical subterfuge, which had served to marginalize Hamas. The US is forever doing the bidding of the murderous Saudis. At the behest of (Bret Baier and) the United States Uniparty; Saudi Arabia and Israel were forming an axis of sorts. The recognition of the Jewish State might have been in the offing. Cynicism aside, Bret Baier, lightweight Fox News neoconservative host, with the War Street Journal, have been waxing fat about the majesty of the Kingdome, a veritable Disney Land on the Desert, and its ruthless ruler in Riyadh, promoting the regime to their viewers and readers.

More threatening to the neocons were the tentative peace efforts underway between Iran, a reliable neoconservative bogeyman, and the Saudis. The neoconservative-favored dispensation in the region had been threatened. U.S. neocons and their clones and apostles do not wish to see the emergence of strong regional powers, which could serve as a counterweight to the Unites States’ malign influence in the Middle-East.

Not so long ago, Israel had maintained an oil pipeline with Iran—we still don’t quite know the provenance of the oil flowing in the pipes of the Eilat-Ashkelon Pipeline Co (EAPC), as the information is subject to a military gag order. But, cui bono? In whose interests are these Middle-eastern feuds forever more?

In an effort to strengthen regional diplomacy, Israel had tried in vain to resist becoming embroiled with the Empire’s Ukrainian client state. So intent was Israel on remaining neutral on Ukraine that it incurred Rumpelstiltskin’s ire. Zelenskyy, in high-dudgeon (and high-heels), had warned Israel that “Putin would help Iran go nuclear” if Israel were to remain neutral in the conflict. For, Israel had “not only refused to sell its Iron Dome missile defense system to Ukraine, but it also blocked the U.S. from sending Iron Dome batteries owned by the U.S. Army to Kyiv.”

As always, resistance and nascent regionalism proved futile in the face of U.S. pressure. Israel soon fell in line, although, to its credit, the Jewish State has been consistent and energetic in offering to negotiate with Russia, a regional power the US wants neutered, but with which Israel must get along.

Not unlike the United States, Hamas aims to disrupt any productive, cooperative alliances arising out of the forging of regional powers in the Middle East, and has thus made its malign presence felt. Colonel Vindman, aforementioned, and the neoconservative claque—piping up are Pompeo, Pence, Haley and Graham—have had their way with Russia with respect to foreign policy. Now that the appeal of the Ukraine project is fading; the neoconservatives will want to keep Iran in their sights.

Republicans, almost to a man—the likes of Darrell Issa and Tim Scott having been vocal on the matter—already blame Iran for Hamas’ murderous spree, without solid proof, although proof will in time be manufactured, as it was for the invasion of Iraq. What it did for the invasion of Iraq, the War Street Journal will diligently do to gin-up regime change in Iran.

TREASON IN THE HOMELAND

Here in America, death waylays us daily, due to similarly treacherous forces. Except that the carnage stateside is a daily drip-drip of racially driven murders and maimings. These deaths Americans have been habituated to accept—for everywhere and always, institutionalized treason is aided by an Orwellian Ministry of Truth.

The carnage in our country results from the prying open of the borders and the jails; from a promiscuous legal immigration system that privileges the undeveloped underclasses, and from the inversion and nullification of the country’s laws, so that ordered liberty cannot be sustained.

The Uniparty has forsaken the American border to the same digital docility to which Israelis had been forsaken. At least in Israel, an attack on the homeland is followed—however late and misguided—by a defense of the territorial homeland. An attack on the American homeland, invariably, sees our military pack up to go to … Timbuktu.

WATCH
HARD TRUTH. My colleague David Vance and I anatomize the backdrop to Hamas’ pogrom, including the geopolitical and domestic forces at play, as well as the fraught history of the Gaza strip. Ilana lived through the 1967 and 1973 wars in Israel; David through the IRA terrorist onslaughts in Ireland. We also examine the “ethics,” or lack thereof, of collective punishment by the State.

There is a strong case to be made—based not on ethnic hate—against any Jew, left or right, who insists that Israel is for the Jews, but America is for the World, namely open to unfettered immigration ~ilana

The Jewish State, by definition, rejects some and welcomes others into the fold.

In “Is Israel Racist?”, a reply to an anti-Semitic interviewer (he bailed), the emphasis was on demonstrating why Israel’s particularism is an extension of the individual’s right as a sovereign, discerning human being, for the freedom to include or exclude is not racist. Rather, it is the inherent right of free individuals, living severally or collectively.”

Jews are to be faulted only to the extent that they deny to other nations the rights they claim for the Jewish ethno-state.

Israel’s particularism, moreover, is not race-based, it’s religious.

As understood in the U.S., racism is more often concerned with discrimination based on distinct physical characteristics. It’s thus important to understand that Jews no longer constitute a race.

Before the two exiles of the Jews from Israel, the first in 586 B.C., I would hazard that Hebrews were likely genetically quite distinct. It is still not uncommon for a Jewish marriage of recessive genes to bring into phenotypical expression certain diseases unique to Jews.

Some scientists suggest there is a “genetic basis for a common ancestry of the whole of the Jewish population.” The Cohanim, descendants of Aaron of the priestly caste, certainly share distinct genetic markers.

Thousands of years hence, however, there are white, brown and black Jews in Israel. In fact, there are Jews from 100 countries, including Yemen, India, the Arab countries and Ethiopia.

In 1991, roughly 36,000 Ethiopian Jews were lifted to safety in a series of daring operations initiated by successive Likud governments, headed by Menachem Begin, heir to founding father Ze’ev Jabotinsky’s classical liberalism. It’s hard to imagine an American government doing the same, say, for the racially persecuted Christians of South Africa or Zimbabwe. At the time, Ethiopian Jews were being oppressed by a brutal Marxist-Leninist, Col. Mengistu Haile Mariam.

While Israeli Jews share a common faith—Judaism—in what way are they a race? Clearly, Israeli Jews are a variegated people – many look just like Arabs and vice versa. The charge of racism as we know it in the U.S. is no more than liberal lather, racial agitation as atavistic and base as the kind that unleashed violence on American cities, during 2020.

The same deductive debunking applied to this concept in the column “Systemic Racism Or Systemic Rubbish?” applies in Israel. Namely, from the fact that distinct racial and ethnic groups are reflected in academia and in the professions disproportionately to their presence in the larger population—it doesn’t follow that they have been disenfranchised. Discrimination is far from the only plausible explanation for the lag in the fortunes of certain homogenous groups.

While (unofficially) rejecting multiculturalism, Israel retains liberal, democratic institutions and accords equal rights and protections to minorities. Israeli Arabs have equal voting rights, freedom of speech, assembly and press, as is evident from the hate-filled Islamic journals that thrive in Israel. Israeli Arabs run for the Knesset, hold government posts, and serve on the bench. Israel is one of the few places in the Middle East where Arab women may vote. Arabic is one of Israel’s two official languages.

The sole legal distinction between the Jewish and Arab citizens of Israel is that the latter are not required to serve in the Israeli army, a perk, some would say. As such, they don’t qualify for veteran benefits and, I imagine, will not get work where military security clearance is required. On the other hand, as the Jewish Virtual Library points out, Israeli Arabs get a head-start in the economy while Jews are conscripted for three years.

In a bit of bafflegab, my Jew-hating interlocutor, to whom this column is a response, related that he had become outraged, after hearing about the woes of “Christian Jews.” His ire was over the fact that, as he put it, “a Jew cannot be a Christian and be considered a Jew.”

I suspect that by “Christian Jews,” my interviewer meant a Christian who immigrates to Israel and is barred from becoming a citizen of the Jewish State. But since my partner in conversation writes incontinently about Jews and claims to know his stuff—I will refrain from so charitable a reading, and simply say this:

Of course a Christian is not a Jew—in the same way that a Muslim is not a Jew or a Christian, and a Jew is not a Christian or a Muslim.

A is not B. If A is a Jew and B is a Christian, then the one is not the other and vice versa.

If a Jew wishes to be a Christian, he must undergo a religious process. The same applies to a Christian: If he wishes to convert to Judaism and be recognized as Jewish, he must complete an arduous conversion that entails both study and ritual.

You may convert to Judaism. You are not a Jew until you do. The tantrum over the un-inclusive nature of Judaism is reminiscent of the pronoun psychosis, which amounts to a nihilistic quest to break down the systems of classification bequeathed to us by the ancients.

More fundamentally, the world is filled with categories of discrete entities. To make sense of the world, we’ve ordered it in such a way. Comes the postmodernist progressive and tells us that there are no categories, everything is intersectional and fluid. How dare you deny me, a flesh-and-blood woman, the right to identify as a daisy. Or, the right of a girl to call herself a boy? Or, the right of a Christian to declare himself a Jew?

How dare you! Racist! Evil-doer! Denier (of something or another)!

Sigh.

That Israel arrogates to itself the right to decide who will join the polity enrages its enemies. They consider Israel an illegitimate entity in part because it is not a true multicultural state, but a Jewish state, to which only Jews have a right of return. There is no corresponding Palestinian right.

The selectivity with which the Jewish State confers citizenship is thus reflexively conflated with racism and “apartheid.” “Nazi” is another sobriquet favored by the far-gone left, which would prefer that its Palestinian protégés be masters in a failed state than a minority in a functioning one.

Nevertheless, there is a strong case to be made—based not on ethnic hate—against any Jew, left or right, who rejects the “Right of Return” to Israel proper of every self-styled Palestinian refugee, yet, at the same time, champions a global right of return to the U.S. for citizens of the world.

Oblivious to the logical and moral contradictions inherent in their special pleading—some Jews work toward rightist political prescriptions for Israelis; but leftist prescriptions for Americans.

These Jews insist that Israel is for the Jews, but America is for the World.

Any Jew who practices this ethical contradiction must be condemned, for promoting for England, America and Europe the national incoherence and multicultural morass he rejects for Israel.

Running against Barack Obama’s reckless fiscal policies (the building blocks for which were laid by Bush), a Republican, Catholic businessman has just beaten a Democratic, Jewish, pro-Israel, career politician in New York City’s 9th Congressional District, by 54 to 46 percent.

Bob Turner’s historic win over David Weprin, a first for Republicans since 1923, is reminiscent of Scott Brown’s victory over Martha Coakley in Massachusetts. Given the ethnic composition of the district—almost 40 percent Jewish—the media, however, is spinning the win as a referendum on Obama’s policies on Israel, not the economy.

Had the Democrat not outspent the Republican and outgunned him with the assistance of former president Bill Clinton and Gov. Andrew Cuomo; and had the Jewish voters under scrutiny not been primarily Orthodox, working class, and in opposition to gay marriage—CNN’s Errol Louis might have alluded to Jewish money and influence. Instead, the commentator confined himself to describing the votes cast for a fiscally and socially more conservative representative as “tribally” motivated.

Understand; the media in this country overwhelmingly promote an alternate reality. The reality mainstream media transmit privileges economic planning, according to which it is perfectly possible for the private economy to grow in the shadow of a government that has squandered trillions and makes up for it by printing and borrowing more.

Mainstream media see nothing incongruous about a credit-fueled, consumption-based existence. If anything, savings, investment and production they depict as suspect. To them, solvency is not necessarily a virtue, but often a vice. Lending must always take precedent over the liquidation of debt.Summed-up by Henry Hazlitt, the essence of John Maynard Keynes’ General Theory is also the mainstream media’s motto: “The great virtue is Consumption, extravagance, improvidence. The great vice is Saving, thrift, ‘financial prudence.'”

In this world away from real life, economic activity, like politics, is viewed as a zero-sum game, where one person’s plenty is another’s poverty. But perpetual propaganda cannot repeal reality. The production and consumption of products, not of paper money, is what makes for an increase in wealth. A bureaucratic feeding frenzy will never ever awaken the sleeping beauty that is the private economy. Individuals make a living in the real world, in Brooklyn too.

Voters there have likely realized that Obama is no deity, and that dropping paper money like manna from the DC heavens, as the president is doing, is destined to impoverish. There is trouble in the whacky Third Dimension occupied by media darling Barack Obama. Having increased the deficit by close to $5 trillion over his three, pox-filled years in office, the president has taken to the road in campaign mode, to shamelessly stimulate his latest package in public.

This last stimulus is Obama’s fifth. This promiscuous spender has promised to save the nation by squandering an additional $447 billion without adding a cent to the 14.7 trillion-dollar debt. Like the other poisonous packages before it, this one (the American Jobs Act) is supposed to be The One. The Shrub, Barack Obama’s predecessor and mentor on monetary policy, sponsored only two stimulus bills. By the CATO Institute’s count, those totaled some $200 billion in deficit spending. Obama has bested Bush, having “enacted four more, with a total price tag of roughly $1.3 trillion.”

Aided by Congress, Obama also engineered an increase in the nation’s borrowing abilities in exchange for miniscule cuts—not to government, but to the rate at which it will metastasize over the course of 10 years. Yes, the government is in hock to the tune of $115 trillion for the unfunded liabilities of Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security; Obama has agreed to spend a mere $917 billion less during the next decade!

To flog his latest cure-all spending fix, Obama is using the very same accounting (and sophistry), with one exception: He has promised added taxes to be levied against “millionaires and billionaires” earning $250,000 a year. “In places like New York,” observes CATO’s Michael Tanner, “that’s not the ‘super rich.’”

Jewish, Irish, or Italian: The 9th Congressional District is onto the leech-in-chief.

In 2007, the Ron Paul presidential campaign commissioned a short position piece from me concerning the congressman and Israel. In discussion with Dr. Paul’s then-campaign managers, I had ventured that to forge ahead as a viable candidate, Rep. Paul would need to convince the enormously powerful Christian Right that he was not hostile to Israel. For America’s Evangelicals—and not AIPAC (American-Israeli Public Affairs Committee) often invoked derisively by libertarians—are Israel’s most powerful political lobbyists.

The truth is that libertarians consider Israel a bit of a vexation. As a principled libertarian and a Zionist, I have striven to navigate these shoals without resorting to special pleading.

Fast forward four years. Rep. Ron Paul is now the GOP’s best bet against Obama in 2012. (Preliminary polls show the congressman from Texas trailing “the president by only seven points.”) And the good doctor has been making waves—good vibrations, really—with the following declaration: “I think Israel has to do what’s in its best interest. It shouldn’t have to ask us for permission.” The occasion was the first Republican presidential debate. Juan Williams of Fox News asked the can-opening question. Williams wanted to know what President Paul would do if Israel struck Iran. I was pleased, if not surprised, to hear Dr. Paul voice his concern for the Jewish State’s sovereignty. Israel was beholden to the US and its conflicting interests. Due to its dependence on American military aid, posited Paul, Israel was not always able to act independently and self-interestedly.

The time is ripe, then, to publish “Unshackling Israel,” the piece I penned for Dr. Paul back in December of 2007 (in the spirit of full disclosure, The Campaign compensated me for the following effort):

“Conservatives once had choice words for foreign aid. It was ‘money down a rathole’ (Jesse Helms), and it amounted to ‘putting Ghana over Grandma’ (Tom DeLay). Duly, Dr. Ron Paul opposes all foreign aid because it’s unauthorized by the Constitution. The American Founding Fathers believed, as does Dr. Paul, that politicians have no right to be benevolent with funds belonging to the people.

So while it is true that the Israeli government will be (annually) $2.58 billion the poorer under a Paul administration, neighboring Muslim governments, most of which are ill-disposed toward Israel, will be deprived of much more than that. More material, the Israeli people will be the richer. Why so? Because, as any economist worth his salt knows, foreign aid, being a government-to-government transfer, grows the public sector in the recipient country at the expense of the private, productive economy. Warren Buffet, after all, recently chose to invest $4 billion in Israeli industry, not in the Israeli government. Like Mr. Buffet, Dr. Paul believes the Israeli people possess in abundance what economist Lord Peter Bauer called ‘the faculties, attitudes and institutions favorable to material progress.’

The American people are generous to a fault. Private foreign aid in the US greatly exceeds U.S. government aid. Naturally, under a low- or no-tax Paul administration, Jews, evangelicals, and Israel’s other benefactors will continue to give privately—and, in fact, will have more disposable income to part with.

HE WHO PAYS THE PIPER CALLS THE TUNE. For foreign aid, Israeli leaders have been forced to subordinate their country’s national interests to Washington’s whims. This is bad for both allies. Those of us who want the U.S. to stay solvent—and out of the affairs of others—recognize that sovereign nation-states that resist, not enable, our imperial impulses, are the best hindrance to hegemonic overreach. Patriots for a sane U.S. foreign policy ought to encourage all America’s friends, especially Israel, to push back and do what is in their national interest, not ours.

The American founders had a deep affinity for—and knowledge of—the Mosaic faith and morals. In the Israelites they saw a people that had set up a political order that was unique in the ancient world for the ‘existence of a partial check upon civil authority,’ to quote Russell Kirk. As a devout Christian steeped in American history, Dr. Paul values and appreciates this unique bond.”

From the Middle East comes news that Hamas and Fatah have united to forge a national-unity thugocracy in Gaza and the West Bank.

We in the West can fantasize all we like that fatwas and fanaticism are on the wane across the Arab world. The romantic projections of mushy minds will do nothing to alter reality. A preponderance of newly liberated Egyptians wants the peace with Israel to expire. And a seething Syrian majority, currently clamoring for freedom from the clutches of the Alawi minority, is also rooting for the reclamation of the Golan Heights.

The fact that the Palestinians, unlike their Israeli neighbors, don’t live under the rule of enlightened Western law, don’t have a free and ferociously critical media or liberal courts, and are more likely to approve when brothers “honor-kill” sisters, or when coreligionists strap on belts of nails and dynamite to blow up innocents—this too is immutably true.

Yet the “civilized” world is working diligently to shrink the civilized sphere that is Israel and expand the barbaric Palestinian Authority. As Israel’s Independent News Center has reported, the United States, the United Nations, the European Union and Russia may push Israel to “withdraw to the [indefensible] armistice lines drawn up between the Jewish state and Jordan in 1949.”

The international community’s latest impetus was confirmed by Dori Gold, one-time Israeli ambassador to the Unites Nations, on The Glenn Beck Show. On the eve of the Easter Holy Week, Beck infuriated Fox News’s Saudi shareholders by taking a symbolic, if unequivocal, stand for “the Jew among nations”; for the civilized society that abuts the savage society. Foibles and frailties notwithstanding, in Israel the West has reclaimed a small spot of sanity in a sea of savagery, where Christians and Jews and their holy places are safe. (Muslims, Arab-Israelis included, are always secure in western societies.)

When Jews commenced what must be the most remarkable modern-day national revival, Israel was a wasteland. The utilitarian classical liberal economist Ludwig von Mises observed that for centuries the Near East has been a cultural backwater. “The Mohammedans”—Mises’s delightfully archaic usage—have for hundreds of years failed to produce so much as a “book of significance,” much less any scientific or other advancement. As Mises saw it, the catalysts for creativity and prosperity are individual freedom and freedom from the state, ideas that are inimical to the cultures of the Near East, and the Islamic world in particular.

Unfortunately, the rabbi Beck entertained during his hour-long broadcast, “In Defense of Israel,” instantiated a lot of what is wrong with American Jewry—and, as a consequence, what is likely to cause Americans to resent Israelis, indirectly. What do I mean? A woman in the audience probed Rabbi Joseph Potasnik about the differences between American and Israeli Jews. In his incoherent reply, the rabbi was as ghettoized as any representative of CAIR (the Council on American-Islamic Relations). Israeli and diaspora Jews are two different species. Alas, Rabbi Potasnik furnished some tribal retort that all too well demonstrated how Jewish leadership has cast Jews (and Israelis, by extension) as a mere faction among America’s many fractious, multicultural identity groups.

Moreover, there’s a certain truth the rabbi avoided: American Jews tend to stake out left-liberal positions with respect to the concerns of their fellow Americans, but are rightist on matters Israel. For America, leftist Jews advocate a multicultural, immigration free-for-all, pluralist pottage. At the same time for Israel, most Jews claim the right to retain a creedal and cultural distinctiveness and a Jewish majority. Israel, but not the US, should be allowed to control immigration and guard its borders.

Ask any left-liberal American Jew if he supports a “Right of Return” to Israel proper for every self-styled Palestinian refugee, and he’ll recoil: “Are you mad? Never. That’s a euphemism for Israel’s demise.” The very thing he opposes for Israel, the leftist Jew is inclined to champion for America: a global right of return to the US for the citizens of the world. When it comes to “returning” to America only (but not Israel), humankind is said to possess a positive, manufactured right to venture wherever, whenever. (This view is common among American liberals of all religious persuasions.)

The plan hatched by the Middle East Quartet for Israel has been shelved, for now. The US has postponed a Quartet meeting—in all likelihood because Barack Obama is already in bad odor with the American people on so many other fronts.

The Quartet will be back to push Israel back.

This column has been consistently polite about—but disinterested in—the putative push for freedom across the Middle East. Dare I say that such a stance, and not slobbering sentimentality, is the proper, libertarian position? I promised, accordingly, that when liberty deprived peoples the world over supported patriots stateside, I’d return the favor. The same goes for Israel.

Israelis want the support of Americans in standing up for their national sovereignty. Fine. But they should respond in kind.

The titan is tired. We Americans have our own tyrants to tackle. We no longer want to defend to the death borders not our own—be they in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, wherever. And we don’t need our friends looking to us to do so.

Members of the American chattering class have been tripping over one another to show-off their solidarity with the popular uprising in Egypt.

After being hammered left and right for his hands-off approach to Egyptians’ demand for democracy, Barack Obama complied, and waxed fat about those universal rights that belong to the Egyptian people.

You know, the same rights sundered stateside by US representatives — who’ve designated for the Great American Unwashed special “free speech zones” where they may lawfully assemble, and who’ve proposed emergency Internet-killing- and net neutrality laws, individual healthcare mandates, on and on. For the edification of Egyptians Against Freedoms Flouted in America, it has been estimated that our federal government may use the criminal process to enforce over 300,000 federal regulations. Hey, you could be an outlaw and you don’t know it!

But I digress. Like Obama, the Israeli Prime Minister’s response to the developments on his country’s southern border was muted. “The peace between Israel and Egypt has lasted for over three decades,” Benjamin Netanyahu reminded the press. “Our efforts have been intended to continue to preserve stability and security in our region.”

Understandable. Netanyahu lives in a rough neighborhood. Cairo is approximately 264 miles from the prime minister’s doorstep. “Without Egypt,” worried Haaretz correspondent Aluf Benn, “Israel will be left with no friends in the Mideast. Indeed, Israelis have no problem accepting that “the old order in the Middle East is crumbling,” as Ari Shavit, also of Haaretz, put it. “Just as the officers’ revolution in the 1950s brought down the Arab monarchism that had relied on the colonial powers, the 2011 revolution in the square is bringing down the Arab tyrants who were dependent on the United States.” “Modernization, globalization, telecommunications and Islamization,” by Shavit’s estimation, have created an unstoppable impetus in the Middle East.

Israel’s habitual haters, on the other hand, have a hard time understanding the country’s justified apprehension about losing the peace with Egypt, and having to consider an increase in a defense budget that was cut, “starting in 1985,” precisely because of that precious peace. (Cuts that greatly benefited Israel’s relatively robust economy.) And so the haters piled onto the Jewish State, blaming it for the fact that successive American governments have supported Hosni Mubarak. “Israel is an enormous detriment to the US,” averred former CIA operative Michael Scheuer. “The longer we pursue this relationship with the Israelis, the more blood and lives it will cost us.”

Yes, poor, little America has been “Jewed” into its foreign policy follies.

As reprehensible has been the position staked out by Israel’s die-hard American boosters, who’ve tried to discredit the Egyptian uprising. They claim it has been fomented by the Muslim Brotherhood, the ideological and tactical progenitor of Islamic Jihad and Hamas. This tack has allowed the fractious neoconservative faction to cheer for Mubarak with little appreciation for the aspirations of his downtrodden people. The likes of former ambassador to the UN John Bolton and Frank Gaffney have not bothered to explain how the Egyptian democratic revolt and the Iranian 2009 uprising differ. Both neoconservatives liked the latter a lot.

For their part, Europeans urged the Egyptian leader whom they loved last week to respect Egyptians’ “freedom of expression, the right to communicate” (the words of European Council President Herman Van Rompuy), as well as “the freedom of opinion” (German Chancellor Angela Merkel). That’s good for a laugh, coming as it does from leaders who wage “lawfare” — “the use of law and legal skill to advance a political agenda” — against “subversive” speech when uttered by their subjects).

“I know nothing so miserable as a democracy without liberty,” wrote Alexis de Tocqueville in the mid-1800s. He speaks for me. I find myself unable to get lathered-up about democracy for others, while I live in the democratic despotism that contemporary America has become. Tocqueville “foresaw the coming of the social welfare state, which agrees to provide all for its subjects, and in turn exacts rigid conformity.” Above this race of conformist men “stands an immense and tutelary power, which takes upon itself alone to secure their gratification and to watch over their fate. That power is absolute, minute, regular, provident, and mild. … it seeks … to keep them in perpetual childhood.”

The “planners’ society” I inhabit is “dominated by a bureaucratic elite.” This unnatural elite, “manages its people’s principal concerns, directs their industry, regulates the descent of property, and subdivides their inheritances. … Thus it every day renders the exercise of the free agency of man less useful and less frequent.”

What remains of the rights to property and self-ownership in the soft tyranny that is the USA is regulated and taxed to the hilt. When they travel, Americans are routinely patted down, and irradiated with photons like meat in a packaging plant. In contravention of their naturally licit rights, many thousands of my compatriots languish in prisons for ingesting unapproved substances, or for violating information socialism laws (so-called insider trading infractions). Others are hounded by democratically elected despots for daring to form militia (as many Egyptians have recently done) in order to repel the trespassers who traipse across their homesteads on our country’s Southern border, killing their cattle and imperiling their kin.

More often than not, Americans who yearn for the freedoms their forbears bequeathed to them are labeled demented and dangerous. I’ve yet to hear liberty deprived peoples the world over stand-up for the tea-party patriots. When they do — I’ll gladly galvanize on their behalf.

Until then, I wish the Egyptians better luck with their next “son of 60 dogs” — that’s an Egyptian expression for political master. But that’s about it.

An import from “liberated” Iraq, hostage taking is an increasingly popular pastime in the Palestinian Authority. There are no aversive consequences such as, say, punishment. Opportunity costs are minimal too. If he were not terrorizing his captives, what would your garden-variety Palestinian thug be doing instead? Singing for his supper?

Mainstream media has “explained” ad nauseam the vexing nuances of the “Palestinian problem.” We know why jobs are unavailable in that otherwise economically viable anarcho-terrorist territory, why government consists of competing terrorist gangs (rather than only one), and why civil society, such as it is, canonizes killers. Israel; it’s all Israel’s fault!

Given this much-rehashed media consensus, I was surprised to hear Fox correspondent Steve Centanni and his colleague, photographer Olaf Wiig, lament that the Palestinian story was underreported. Freed after two weeks in Gazan captivity, the two men appeared mortified at the thought that their ordeal would compound this alleged state of affairs.

Centanni and Wiig also commended the Palestinian people for being “very beautiful and kind-hearted.” I don’t know about you, but if I were hijacked off a busy “commercial district,” in full view of “people walking up and down,” and spirited away to some dowdy digs, where I was surrounded by the sounds of “pious” prayer, I’d have a slightly different take on the host population.

Far be it from me to criticize the two men. Okay, that’s not true. If I were driving among the “beautiful” people of Gaza, I’d have locked the doors of my armored SUV. Centanni and Wiig didn’t. And as soon as masked men swarmed my vehicle, I’d have accelerated, ploughed through my assailants, and sped away. The armored car Wiig was driving would have easily withstood a few rounds from the tools of the trade in Gaza, the AK-47.

Admittedly, those would be the actions of someone who grew up in the Middle East, and is acutely aware that salutary gentility and dangerous duplicity coexist quite comfortably in Arab culture.

In any event, it is pure fiction to contend, as the two newsmen have, that the Palestinian plight is underreported. As Stephanie Gutmann recounts in “The Other War: Israelis, Palestinians and the Struggle for Media Supremacy”:

There are at least 350 permanently based foreign news bureaus in the city of Jerusalem covering the Israeli/Palestinian conflict—easily as many as in New York, London or Moscow. Adding to this relatively huge body of permanently assigned journalists, there are, at any given time, a hundred or so freelance journalists, authors, photographers and documentarians all sifting this ancient overworked soil looking for scoops. About 900 articles about events in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza are published each day in the English-language media alone—75 times more than about any other area of comparable populations.

Has anyone ever insisted that world peace depends on the resolution of the Tibetan, Chechen, Kurd, Basque, or Armenian conflicts? I think not. Conversely (and contra Centanni), most people have been led to believe that the world’s fate hinges on the resolution of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.

How did world peace become tethered to the Palestinian cause?

As historian Bat Ye’or has documented, in 1973, the European Community, later the European Union, formed a political alliance with the Mediterranean Arab countries. A year later, this system metamorphosed into the Euro-Arab Dialogue, an overarching organization whose goal, openly articulated in its founding documents, was to debate and decide policy (the economy and immigration included), and use parliament to create a “formidable political and legal superstructure” with a view to changing the geo-political dispensation.

In foreign policy, says Ye’or, the EAD backed anti-Americanism, anti-Zionism and the delegitimization of Israel, as well as the promotion of the PLO and Arafat. This particular impetus was instantiated in the EAD’s resolution 15: “The conference decided to form special parliamentary groups, where they did not exist, and to use the parliamentary platform for promoting support of the Arab people and the Palestinian resistance.” From 1977 onwards, the EC/EU declarations on the Arab-Israeli conflict have dovetailed with Arab League decisions and positions.

Over the past 30 years, and as EU documents reveal, the Euro-Arab Dialogue has superimposed an agenda on Europe through powerful governmental agencies and by establishing close cooperation between the Arab and European media, academia, publishing houses, cultural centers, student and youth associations, and Churches.

Practically every international initiative the Arab-guided EU has pursued has been predicated on the resolution of the Palestinian problem. Of course, to the Arabs, this has been no more than a cynical political ploy. Besides Saddam Hussein, who remunerated families of suicide bombers, no Arab nation has ever helped the Palestinians.

The American fashionable left and elements on the tinfoil right were quick to fall in line. With the exception of Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University, there isn’t a campus in America that doesn’t privilege the Palestinian position. Today, every two-bit agitator—from the ANSWER Coalition to Cindy Sheehan—calls for the Palestinian right of return (also a euphemism for the destruction of Israel). Bin Laden and his acolytes have palestinianized their ‘discipline.’

No, Centanni and Wiig are wrong. Palestinian sores suppurate eternally and very publicly; theirs is the plight that never shuts up.
